Last night when I was out driving, playing around the red-line, messing with lift-off oversteer, and just having a blast I was thinking about where my car is happiest. I think that for 'enthusiastic' driving 4k is perfect, plenty of power available, it's just a short trip to the red-line, and it makes good wonderful noises when you get it going.
Where is your car's "happy place"?
Bonus: I think I might have the fastest FiST in the world.. (US Spec category and highest average speed but still that's something!)

Probably between 3000rpm and 4500. There's a lot of turbo lag below 2500 so at 3000 most of the torque is available and it runs out of puff around 4500-5000. It requires a lot of shifting to keep it in range on a fun road.

3500 for the Crossfire. It's a nice bit of kick.

You would be correct haha. The 1.3 turbo diesel has a lot of lag because of a decent sized turbo needing to be spooled by a tiny engine. Makes decent power for such a small car once the turbo spools though.

Somewhere between 6-8k on the E46, really have to wring out the S54.
On the E90 decent driving power is 4-6k but spirited driving calls for the full 8300.

There's plenty of power from just under 2000, but the sweet spot is before 3000 and 4000. No turbo lag, though, so there's sufficient usable power from 1,300 RPM. My mom's Z4, on the other hand, goes completely insane between 4,500 RPM and 7,000 (where my engine makes less power and blows up). Top end power might not be so convenient, but it's more fun IMO.

Around 3000 to 4000 on the 850R – boost starts coming on in the mid 2's, and by 3000, it starts reaching the 'overboost' range permitted by the R tune (at full throttle, it gives you 30 seconds of 10.5PSI before dropping back to 9.6). The result is a swift kick up the backside, followed by a beautiful wave of torque and wonderful turbo-five noises, all the way to redline. It never gets old, and my fuel economy is utterly tragic, as a result.
On the MG, 800-6000. It doesn't make a particularly huge amount of power anywhere in the rev range, but the sounds are just fantastic – slightly lumpy burbling at idle and low revs, building up to a lovely rasp, with a fantastic growl and crackle on the overrun.

3.5k to7.8 is all surprisingly violent if I keep it floored. First few weeks I had her I was surprised that 90% of its shove is still there before I forgot to shift and it bounced off the limiter.
The turbo came from a lancer EvoIII and was ported & smoothed out in the exhaust tunnel and the compressor blade edges were shaved to reduce turbulence and rotating mass for high rpm efficiency... soz I guess it did what it was supposed to. For a few years anyway.

Between 3500 and redline at 6000
